Technical fault causes more water cuts across Lanzarote

Residents and businesses in several parts of Lanzarote are facing further water supply problems after electrical faults affected pumping stations at Zonzamas.

Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, the publicly managed company responsible for the island's water service, says the problems are particularly affecting Tías, San Bartolomé, Tinajo and Teguise.

The electrical incidents began late on Wednesday afternoon and caused significant disruption to both the supply and distribution of water through the network.

Technical teams were mobilised to restore normal operation at the affected installations, but water levels in storage tanks subsequently fell, reducing the amount available for distribution.

The company has warned customers that this could lead to interruptions and other problems with supplies while the system recovers.

Existing water cuts add to disruption

The technical problems come on top of already scheduled supply interruptions affecting parts of Haría and Teguise.

Among the areas without supplies are Arrieta and Punta Mujeres in the north of the island, along with Guatiza and Los Valles in Teguise.

Aguas de Lanzarote has not specified all of the individual towns that could be affected by the latest technical problem, meaning disruption could extend beyond those locations already subject to scheduled cuts.

Customers are being advised to check the water company's latest notices for updates on interruptions and restoration of supplies.

The disruption comes amid continuing problems with Lanzarote's water infrastructure and follows the transfer of management of the island's integrated water service to the public company Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa.
