Canarian Government issues pre-alert for calima on Lanzarote

The Canarian Government has issued a pre-alert for calima (airborne dust) conditions on Lanzarote.

By midday, the Network for Monitoring Air Quality had declared the amount of dust particles in the air as “unfavourable” at stations in Costa Teguise and Las Caletas with over 134 micrograms of dust particles smaller than 10 micrometres in diameter (PM10) per square metre of air.

 Levels remain high this morning and the Canarian Government has warned that more calima conditions could be on the way.
