British tourism continues to drive Lanzarote arrivals as German market grows

More than two million tourists arrived in Lanzarote between January and July 2026, with visitor numbers up 0.7% compared with the first seven months of 2025.

The figures suggest the islands could be on course to end the year with a record number of arrivals, driven largely by continued strong demand from the United Kingdom, while other key markets have remained stable or recorded growth.

More than 1.04 million travellers from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland were recorded in Lanzarote through the beginning of August. British visitors accounted for more than 52% of all arrivals, increasing their share of the market.

Ireland was the second-largest source of visitors during the first seven months of the year, with just over 225,000 arrivals recorded by the end of July. This represented around 11.3% of the total.

Visitor numbers from both the UK and Ireland were on par with those recorded in 2025. Lanzarote therefore remained the preferred destination in the Canary Islands for tourists from Ireland.

Germany continued to represent the third major tourism market, with figures pointing to growth in 2026 compared with 2025.

Nearly 186,000 travellers from Germany arrived through July, accounting for 9.3% of total arrivals.

The growth in German visitors moved domestic tourism into fourth place in the overall ranking, with the two markets switching positions.

There were 185,000 domestic travellers during the first seven months, also representing nearly 9.3% of the total. July was particularly significant, accounting for one-third of all arrivals recorded during the first seven months.

Other nationalities

Other international markets collectively accounted for around 18% of arrivals, with France remaining a significant source of visitors to Lanzarote.

More than 136,500 French travellers had visited the island by July, a figure broadly in line with that recorded between January and July 2025.

Italian tourism, meanwhile, showed a marked growth trend during 2026. Just over 66,000 Italian travellers visited during the period covered by the official statistics.

During the same period in 2025, there were more than 50,000 Italian tourists, a figure that had not been reached in either 2024 or 2023.

Lanzarote welcomed just over 51,000 travellers from the Netherlands through July, while around 35,000 tourists arrived from Scandinavia.
